Originally, Speak Up & Get Out was a fictitious group and organization featured in the film Payin' The Price. Film Writer and Director Jordan Coleman created it for a scene in his movie which deals with teen dating violence. However, after meeting several victims of teen dating violence while making his film and previewing it for audiences, Jordan realized it was important to create a website with resourceful information to help teens who are in abusive relationships.

In conjunction with Payin' The Price film, Jordan Coleman will partner with local teen domestic violence groups, educators, clergy and his mom's Just Between Girlfriends Foundation to educate teens about dating violence. The initiative will kick off with the 2012 Speak Up & Get Out film tour, town hall meetings, handouts and this website which provides online resource to help victims.

Jordan was inspired to make a film about teen dating violence after the 2009 Chris Brown/Rihanna incident. He said it was the first time that he and many of his peers had heard about domestic violence. To this day, Jordan said the conversation becomes heated among teens when asked who was at fault Chris or Rihanna.
